Hi! I think that DD's statement could have meant something else as 
well. That had Snape been sorted into Griffindor then he might have 
ended up with Lily and possibly even friends with James, Sirius and 
Remus as he would have been intelligent and humourous enough to have 
fitted in quite well with them. Personally I think it was this thought 
that gave Snape the reaction he had.
