Wait one second...

Let's not overlook the following fact: without Slytherin product 
Severus Snape, armed with all the trappings and tools of Slytherin 
House, Voldemort would not have been defeated.  In order to defeat 
evil, you MUST, to some extent, have its skills at your disposal.  

Tom Riddle would have become the Dark Lord with or without Slytherin 
House, but would Severus Snape have become Severus Snape? 

I don't think so...
