I can only image that the Wizards post a Wizard in the Muggle postal system, 
much like they posted a helper in the Muggle Prime Minister's office for 
protection. I am quite sure that there are Wizard contacts somewhere in the 
Muggle banking system too, because you need some means of exchange. The two 
systems would largely remain separate yes, but somewhere is a contact point. 
Otherwise, how would the Muggle postman be deliving Harry's first Hogwart's 
letter?
