The Watch

In the epilogue, Harry has a watch.

"He checked the battered old watch that had once been Fabian
Prewett's."

I remember Fabian mentioned in passing -- died like a hero in the first
war against Voldy (according to MadEye said somewhere in OOTP). I 
already know he was kin to Molly Weasly (nee Pruitt)

But where did *the watch* enter the story? How did Harry get it? What's
its significance?  Did I miss something?

Any insight much appreciated.
