Perhaps you've missed the inscription on the mirror:

Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi

If you write this backwards, you get:

ishow no tyo urfac ebu tyo urhe arts desire

which makes more sense when spaced correctly as:
 
I show not your face but your heart's desire.
