Well, in one reading of the Phoenix legend, Fawkes' body is
completely destroyed, and Fawkes is reborn from an egg. Not the same
'body'. Another version of the Phoenix has the thing reborn from the
ashes and flames.
Inherent in either version is the sense that the body, being the
container, is destroyed, purified, cleansed, and started again anew.
Various religious and psychological systems would read all of this
symbolically in different ways.
If Fawkes were to contain a horcruxed portion of soul, the precedent
in the books is that when body/container is destroyed, the soul
portion is also.
