I'm confused! I've always thought that Harry noticed the difference
between the fake locket that fell from DD's pocket and the real
Slytherin's locket that he (Harry) saw in the Pensieve, in Ogden's
memory, not the difference between the locket from DD's pocket and the
locket DD took from the basin (I still think it's the same locket, but
this is not the point).

Harry didn't even look at the locket when DD took it from the basin,
IIRC, and he barely caught a glimpse of it in the basin. I don't think
he could notice any difference even if it existed. All he could see was
that the locket from DD's pocket was not Slytherin's locket that Harry
saw Merope wearing in Ogden's memory.

That's how I've always understood it. Maybe I missed something here. I
just don't think that Harry would call the basin in the cave "Pensieve"
even if they look similar (p.609 US).
