Kemper concurs:
I, too, believe the Diary has a Charm charm and not because I detest
Horcrux Harry. I see the Diary less a soft spoken Siren and more a
Venus Flytrap. The reader is lured into the pages, is allowed to
write a bit, until the writer triggers the trap, snaring her, and
letting the Diary suck the juicy soul at its leisure.
Of course one would wonder why Lucius wasn't compelled to read the
Diary. Or maybe he was and the Diary told him to get it back to
Hogwarts. How else would Lucius know it was cause damage? My reading
of the Dark Lord isn't that he shares information readily.
