Snow:

The Bloomsbury Children's version, front cover, looks like the trio 
is falling through the end of a pipe similar to the one in the 
Chamber of Secrets. Could be the trio slid into Salazar's old stash 
of coins and jewels. 

The house elf certainly does seem to be Dobby.
