If you rotate the alchemical symbol for salt 90 degrees and 
superimpose it on the symbol for aqua vitae, then flip the entire 
image vertically, you get . . . cooking sherry!!! (I couldn't resist). 
You get the symbol seen at the top of the spine on the UK dust jacket 
design.

I think it's supposed to look alchemical.  The symbols for the four 
elements are all triangles.
