Actually we do see the moment where Ginny realizes that Harry is a real
person. It's in GoF, when he and Ron start laughing at the idea of anyone
going with Neville to the ball. She tells them to "shut up laughing" and
then announces to one and all that they got turned down by the girls
they asked to the ball. Of course she's extremely miserable a moment
later when she realizes that *she* might've gone with Harry, but just
for a second she saw him as a guy who was getting a bit above himself
and needed to be put in his place.
