Yep, precisely. He may have avoided a prison sentence for killing 
Sirius and Remus, **that is why** he refrained from committing a 
murder in the shack. That would be correct summary of my position.

I agree - Snape exercised restraint, I am just saying that his 
restraint was "self serving" one.
