There is not a shred of doubt that Marietta DID betray her classmates
to someone willing to engage in torture and murder, but you say that's
OK because she had all sorts of erroneous ideas in her head when she
did it. Well, when you're wrong you have to pay a price for it,
especially when you're as colossally wrong as Marietta was. And I'm
supposed to start blubbering about her acne? 

Again and again I see the same defense, not just of Marietta but for
Snape too, that it's OK to do evil things as long as you're sincere;
personally I think sincerity is a vastly overrated virtue. I'll pick
someone insincerely right over someone sincerely wrong any day.
