I'm not sure if I can agree with "all a person can do is go with what is
known at the time ..."

My mother, who passed away 2 weeks ago at the age of 88, was raised in the
rural Southern United States to family which, while rather genteel, was
definitely racist. Yet, at the early age 18, in the mid 1930s, turned
against everything she had ever been taught by her school, church, and
family and became an early civil rights activist.

Good people know right from wrong and if they are brave, like many
Gryffindors and my mother, will do the right thing, no matter what their
peers may believe. Otherwise, how can any of us ever progress this status
quo?
