I feel it will endure for quite some time. I know that I will
certainly refer young readers to the series and HP has entered our
culture to a great extent with attempts to ban the books, popular
movies, video games and all the other books adjacent to the series
(those written by other authors trying to explain the books).
True, the wtiting and plot aren't the most scintillating at times but
I believe these instances are in the minority and mostly JKR is spot-
on with her writing and characterization. A young man I was talking
to last night said the Harry Potter series was a "stepping stone" to
other fantasy books. I would have to say I agree with him; Harry
Potter will serve as a "gateway book" to others.
