I believe it's at least partly the times we live in. A reflection of
this is `gotcha' journalism, where the flaws everyone has are picked
like scabs. It's a kind of nihilism.

Goodness, you are severe! I don't mind "gotcha journalism" so much, but 
do let me assure you that your second accusation is far off the mark. 
Far from asserting Bazarov-like the impossibility of objective ethics, 
lots of people who criticise the books and especially DH are actually 
disturbed by the relativistic approach to morality in the Potterverse.
