Pippin:
In the first place, Peter Pettigrew knew all about the cloak, so Voldemort
would have been prepared for it. In the second place, if Lily didn't think
of being still and silent and then sneaking out of the house while Voldemort 
was looking for her, why would she think of it if she'd had the cloak? 

Panicky people do stupid things because panic makes people stupid --
it has nothing to do with how smart they are otherwise, or whether there
are means of escape which they could have used if they weren't out of their
minds with fear.
