You are right, but the first lie makes at least some sense to me. LV 
wants Harry to give up the Stone, better without a fight, so he is 
trying to scare him, to make him believe that even his parents were 
scared and begged for mercy. Or he could have said the "begging" bit 
out of pure nastiness :-).

It looks to me like he changed to another lie, not to the truth  :-). I 
read the explanation Pippin offered, and maybe there is some truth in 
it, but I'm still inclined to believe that this "courageous fight" 
thing is just JKR's mistake.
