Since the prophecy was about BOTH, LV certainly was able to retrieve it. 
Instead, he wasted an entire year concocting and executing his elaborate 
scheme when he COULD have just waltzed in and taken himself. Worst of 
all, he didn't even realize it. So much for brilliance.
