Celoneth:
I don't think that there is a necessity, apart from the burden of
being apart w/ a teacher having to spend lots of time in the school -
which (under normal circumstances) could be minimal for regular
teachers since they can just apparate home. I don't think all the
teachers live at Hogwarts, especially w/ JKR's recent statement about
Neville & Hannah. Might be more problematic for heads of houses if
they're required to stay on during the evenings. I believe that JKR
said that some of the teachers are married, and given that we don't
know about the vast majority of teachers they might very well be
married or in relationships - it just never comes up because Harry
doesn't deal w/ them on a regular basis.
