I haven't been following all of this discussion, but I think
one needs to mention, again, that at this point, Harry is
still in Hogwarts.  At school, students (excepting Fred and
George) didn't go down to the kitchen to fix themselves a
sandwich when they were hungry.  They never fixed any
meals for themselves.  This was the job of the house-elves.
[Think about how Snape reacted when Lockhart offered to
make a Mandrake restoring draft.  It was HIS job, not
Lockhart's.]

Asking Kreacher to fix him a sandwich might have actually
been reassuring to the elf, reminding him that Harry still
valued him - and giving him a minor return to normalcy.
