I don't think it takes any grand revelations about house elves'
natures.  Harry is hungry.  House elves fix food at Hogwarts.
Kreacher is at Hogwarts.  Kreacher can fix good food for Harry.
Harry is hungry and tired.  He wonders if Kreacher could fix
him a sandwich.  To me, it is that simple.

As far as food goes, Harry has pretty much ALWAYS let
others help him (at least in the Wizarding World).  Does
he cook on the grand camping trip?  Does he cook at the
Burrow?

The only place we saw him cook was at 4 Privet Drive, IIRC.

How do you think would have been in character for him
