Well, it depends on how you look at it. It is common in heroic fiction to have three main characters representing (whether or not the author was thinking that way) Ego, Superego, and Id, with the hero usually representing Ego, at least in successful attempts. In Lord of the Rings (where it was probably done more deliberately), Sam is the superego, Frodo is the ego, and Gollum is the Id. In the HP novels, Harry is the Ego, Hermione is the superego, and Ron is the Id. Therefore, from that point of view, Hermione is Sam. I think it was on purpose on the part of JKR, as well. (When you have 4 main characters in fiction, they usually represent the 4 elements).
