Geoff:
I'm sorry to fault your Maths but Harry was born on 31st July 1980. He 
was 15 months old when his parents were killed. Therefore, he turned 
eleven on 31/07/91.

Hence, he started at Hogwarts in September 1991 and would have 
entered the Upper Sixth in September 1997. So, the action of DH 
takes place during the academic year 1997/98.

JKR has intimated on several occasions that she does not intend to write 
another book except for the Encyclopaedia which has been mentioned.

Hopefully, we might get some decent fanfic to fill in the gap......
