On reflection, I think "not relevant" is part of the problem. For the 
people who constructed elaborate theories based on dates, numbers, or 
whatever, having the clues they based them on turn out to be so 
completely worthless has got to be the ultimate disappointment. I mean, 
[if it had been me, at least] - that's worse than being _wrong_ - at 
least if you're wrong there's something there, your theory was up 
against others and lost, and you get to find out what it turned out to 
be instead.

I was disappointed by a lot - the "Goblin property rights" bit chief 
among them - but I never bought into the "numbers are important" thing - 
Even when I've talked about years, it's just a convenient number to hang 
a "relative to when the books take place" on.
