literature in the past 20 years, it's also just as possible that the

A while back---not sure if predated HBP or came out afterwards---there
was a thread about hero-types as they applied to Harry and to Snape.
The thread looked at literature throughout the ages.
It would be a good launching point for a new discussion if anyone could
find it. There's also been discussion about the genres the HP books
borrow from and how the characters fit into the roles of different
genres.
