As far as acknowledging that he is 'lesser than'...lesser than 
who? I do not recall his acknowledging himself to be 'lesser 
than' anyone, humility does not seem a prominent character 
trait of Severus Snape, to me anyway.

Me either, he seems to never have any weak qualities. JKR wrote 
his character throughout the books most ingeniously. In past books, 
Severus is cunning, cruel, and slightly vindictive (Although I'm 
sure we'll have some differing opinions in here).
