You know, Kneasy used to say a post often revealed more about the 
poster than it did about HP...  ;-)

US-English uses the same in-law connections. Although sometimes when a 
speaker is trying to completely identify the relationship, he may add 
an -in-law to the word (cousin-in-law). More often it's cousin by 
marriage.

You know, I can't think of a good reason for getting that specific in a 
conversation. Well, maybe if someone said, "Isn't Voldmort  your 
cousin?" and you wanted to distance yourself from the relationship.
