Still terrifies me that Fudge would ally himself with those creatures
even after they tried to perform the Dementor's Kiss on the savior of
the WW.

Aside from that... Sirius was unconscious during most of the attack.
Hermione fainted. Remus was gone. Snape was out cold. Ron was far
removed from the situation. Perhaps he "talked" to the dementors?
</sarcasm> I suppose that's the only way he'd get details of the attack.

Or chalk it up to flints.
