I believe it's all in the phrasing. Harry asked to be shown where all the students through the years have left their stuff. TR might not have used the same phrasing. He might've asked for a room where he could hide something and everything else wouldn't have been there. Think of the other times they've used the room, all that stuff isn't always there.
