Perhaps Tom asked for a room where he could hide the Horcrux, and when
he saw it was FULL OF STUFF, thought to himself, "Brilliant! The room
is obedient to my command! Even if anyone ever finds this room, they'll
never find the diadem among ALL THIS STUFF the room has created to
camouflage it."
