Pippin:
We  know one thing that the Elder Wand could do that Harry's own 
phoenix feather wand, the brother of Voldemort's, could not do -- 
repair a broken wand. Perhaps Voldemort experimented with trying
to mend Lucius's wand, and couldn't do it.
