The biggest change is actually in book 6, where in the American
version (pages 591-592) Dumbledore promises Draco Malfoy to fake the
deaths of Draco and Narcissa ("Nobody would be surprised that you had
died in your attempt to kill me -- forgive me, but Lord Voldemort
probably expects it. Nor would the Death Eaters be surprised that we
had captured and killed your mother -- it is what they would do
themselves, after all"); in the British version Dumbledore only
promises to hide them. This difference is minor as far as the plot
goes, but was used by fans who were claiming that Dumbledore didn't
really die at the end of book 6.
