LOL, pure speculation is fine.  I just wanted to make sure it was 
speculation and that I didn't simply miss some obvious things in the 
text. :D

I think, as Lynda pointed out in another response to this, what you 
described as a possibility definitely *fits* with what we know of DD; 
thus, it wouldn't be a surprise if it were the truth.  I just think 
that it also could fit with the DD we know that the *other* option 
was the truth:  that he truly didn't feel it was best or right to use 
Unforgivables/Dark Magic.
