I see your point about Riddle discovering his magic identity, but
Hitler didn't have magic--unless one believes "Hellboy"--and he
caused mass destruction and genocide. Still, honing his powers
clearly made Riddle a different kind of threat, but like Hitler, he
couldn't have caused so much suffering if weak people didn't follow
him.
