I think Hermione Obliviated Xenophilius not to help him, but to
prevent him from revealing to the DEs some details of HRH's visit -
like the fact that Ron was there, which she wanted to conceal (that's
why she made Ron wear the Cloak during their escape). Maybe Hermione
also didn't want the DEs to know the reason for their visit, although
this is less likely, considering that she didn't believe one word of
Xeno's story about the Deathly Hallows and didn't consider it
important at that point.
