I thought the index and pointer finger gesture came from Bowmen in the
middle ages. A rumor was spread by an enemy that the bowmen were so
bad at that their job that they lost their fingers. So, when the
enemy approached the Bowmen showed them their fingers in that gesture
to prove their expertise.
