I don't think Harry ever doubted that what he saw in SWM was the truth. 
I believe he wanted to contact Sirius and Remus to ask for an 
explanation, not for a confirmation (or denial) of what he saw. Maybe 
he hoped to hear from them some excuse for his father's behavior, 
because he couldn't find one himself :-).
