Sarah:
I thought it was first year, and he never did return it because Snape 
made up a rule that library books weren't allowed in the courtyard and 
took it.  He went to ask for it back, but found out that Filch was 
bandaging Snape's leg (why Filch was doing it I have no idea) so he 
took off.  I don't recall he ever did get it back, but I don't have my 
book here to check.
