I was going to bring this up also.  And add that, in POA Harry works
on an essay on witch burning, though it's the fourteenth century
that's referenced.  His text book makes light of any attempts at witch
burning.  I always wondered if it wasn't biased in the opposite
direction from the Muggle Studies lessons in DH.

If the text book is taken at face value, the sentiment of attempting
to burn witches, even if none were ever harmed, is still not very
friendly.
