Until the problems I had with the final book, which don't really fit here, the part of the HP series which disturbed me the most was one you mentioned, the death of Cedric. Here we have a young person, I suppose under Wizarding Law "of age", so 17 or 18, but to me (in my 50's) still a child, killed. And, not only as an afterthought, (Kill the Spare), but as a result of he and Harry doing the "right" thing, from all the data they had, and deciding to share the glory of winning, and thus taking the cup together. It made my blood run cold, and I felt very positive about Harry when I learned that he was having nightmares about it all summer, in spite of the fact that he had never really "liked" Cedric.

I find this both very disturbing and also consider it to be good "art", as it shows how evil the "bad" side it without resorting to gross stuff, like the snake eating people, etc.
