Very definitely. Although to be accurate, I had seen the film first
but it was still a great surprise there.

I suspect an Incarcerous spell.

Well, the story would have ended there surely. Because he would
have returned to a body and continued from before with his drive
to take over the Wizarding World and probably succeeded.

I think that the book could have been popular as a stand-alone novel
although the ending would have been rather weak and left matters
up in the air.
