I agree! I went back to re-read this section, because I thought the whole point of the description was supposed to tell us something about Snape. Actually it's what follows--that Snape caught Harry's eyes and his dislike was still evident--that is important. It also closes a circle-- the exchanged look at the Welcoming feast; Snape was talking to Quirrell, and this look at the End of Term Feast as he was talking to McGonagall.
