Of course, they were familiar with it! They invented it! And they held
onto it all that time. There's no indication that anyone else used it
until Lily angrily hurled it at Severus in retaliation for "Mudblood."

"Tricky Dick" (no second "y") was an epithet, not a nickname. See
definition 2 in my previous post. Your definition may not rule out a
derogatory use, but mine specifically includes it. QED.
