I don't think this conversation ever happened, because, according to
the book, it took the hat less than a second to Sort Lily, there was
just not enough time for conversations :-): "...barely a second after
it had touched the dark red hair, the hat cried, "Gryffindor!"(672). I
assume there was no doubt in the hat's mind that Lily belonged in
Gryffindor, whatever she herself might think :-).
