Do you think Snape had been hating Harry all these years since Lily's
death--and was prepared to keep hating him?
I can imagine he may have resented the fact that Harry--who was the
reason Lily died---had survived. But I'm not sure I can understand that
he was prepared to hate the boy on sight.
Would Snape have reacted the same way, do you think, if Harry had
looked more like Lily?
