dejavu!
Reminds me of the first heated days after DH came out.
I don't have an answer for the other items, but I will address the
pointless, graceless death of Severus Snape. <sigh>
I hate that Snape died. I really hate the way he died. It was
pointless. Death in war often is. Not everyone gets to die while
charging the enemy and taking 3 or 4 bad guys with them.
As much as I didn't want Snape to die, I knew the chances were high
that he would die. My second concern was that if he died it would be
some hoakey, eye-rolling death. (I had visions of Snape throwing LV
into a firey pit and saying to Harry, "Luke, I am your father.")
The manner of his death was completely unexpected--killed by the man
who was honoring him in the first chapter, and due to a mistake. But,
he died in the line of duty, and his last effort was to give Harry
important information. If nothing else, he completed the duel task he
had taken on earlier.
Of course, it's taken me what, 2 years to comes to grips with it?

Within fandom I think healing has taken place--or is taking place. Not
everyone, I'm sure. But for many of us. I hate to admit a piece of
fiction had such an impact on me, but it did.
