Perhaps the meaning is that a life well lived--using a provided aid when
needed (who can ever say they were courageous in every situation in their
life?) but learning to give up that aid--in the case of the HP novels--when
the time is right prepares you to meet death, which is the "next great
adventure", it being more or less an unknown quantity, even for those of us
who believe in a life after this one.
