Somewhere, there is an interview with JKR, in which she says she wanted
it clear that Harry could perform the Unforgivables. So we would
understand at some point, he was choosing not to cast them.
I was going to make the point that the wand had nothing to do with it--
but that's not necessarily the case. Having a wand that would obey the
spell might have been a big help in casting them.
