kamion's answer:

Actually I am pretty sure that Snape is NOT the godfather of Draco
Malfoy, it is a fanfic's wish to counterbalance the godfatherhood of
Sirius/Harry, but JKR doesn't seem to have that need to include
counterbalances. She never mentioned it and there are no indications
there is that kind of relation between Draco and Snape.(as much as I
would like it).
It's only in Harry's eyes, that Snape seems to like Draco and would
Snape be Draco's godfather Narcissa would have mentioned it and used
it
as an extra pressure in "Spinner's End" to convince Snape to help and
save Draco.

Why should Snape be a godfather of the scion of one of the Famous
Families, he himself is far being a member of a Famous Family, he is
actually a halfblood with a lowerclass Muggle as a father, the status
of the Prince family is unknown.
Would Lucius and Narcissa go looking for a godfather for their only
son, they probably would look among the Famous Families; the wizard
families that are high up in the Wizard Society. Being Slytherin is
all
about cementing relations.
Now who those respected and ancient families are is pretty vague, one
would assume they are among the Death Eaters, but that need not to be.
The Blacks, at the time Walburga ruled the roost, are the exemple,
that
being of wizard "nobitity" does not automatic means being a Death
Eater. On the other hand the Lastranges are noted by Griphook as one
of
the oldest families and still pretty well off. But they were not
respected enough to escape imprisement for the crimes against the
Longbottoms. A family that had enough status, that claiming kinship
could polish ones' own status is the Selwyn family. A Selwyn works at
the Ministry ( and is also a Death Eater), so maybe famous but not
rich
enough to live off his galleons like Malfoy.
I can easliy imagine filty rich Lucius Malfoy buying status with a
heavy bag of gold for getting a Selwyn accepting godfatherhood over
Draco.
